Our Story

Lady Gregory’s is named in honor of Isabella Augusta Gregory, better known as Lady Gregory—a towering figure in Irish literature, theatre, and cultural revival.

Born in 1852 in County Galway, Lady Gregory was a playwright, folklorist, and co-founder of the Abbey Theatre, Ireland’s national theatre. She worked alongside literary greats like W.B. Yeats and J.M. Synge, and was instrumental in preserving and promoting traditional Irish stories, language, and identity during a time of political and cultural transformation.

Her legacy is one of fierce intellect, creativity, and hospitality. She opened her home at Coole Park to writers, artists, and thinkers—a place where Irish culture was nurtured, debated, and celebrated.

We named our restaurant after Lady Gregory not only because of her contributions to Irish arts and letters, but because of what she stood for: a love of storytelling, a deep sense of place, and the importance of gathering people around a table to share ideas, food, and drink.

At Lady Gregory’s, we also honor those values by creating a space that’s welcoming to everyone. We’re proud to be part of the LGBTQ+ community, and we’re committed to being a place where all people feel safe, seen, and celebrated.

Lady Gregory’s is proud to carry forward that spirit—right here in Andersonville—with warm hospitality, great conversation, and a menu inspired by the richness of Irish tradition and the vibrancy of today.
